USAIM conducts two exams in India:

 

The first one is the Postgraduate exam. This exam is conducted for all those doctors who already have a PG diploma and a registration.

 

The second exam is the M.Ch exam. This exam is given to doctors who have their registration. The course is accredited by the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME).

 

With Seychelles having a population of approximately 80,000 and only one hospital, USAIM was forced to make affiliations with other hospitals outside of Seychelles. Therefore, USAIM signed MOU with hospitals in India, United Kingdom and United States of America.

 

USAIM pioneered the foreign medical education in India since 2004 by associating with reputed organizations like D. Y. Patil in Mumbai, Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune and ABMH in Pune which speaks of our credibility.

 

Our postgraduate (PG) degrees were not recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI) because it is a foreign degree and there is no screening test for such students similar to the one MCI has for the undergraduate (UG) students. All our students know this fact because they sign a disclaimer.

 

Medical Council of India (MCI) or Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) does not regulate foreign PG-MD/MS degrees and has no jurisdiction over foreign medical colleges specially when the student did not ask MMC for registration. Similarly, MMC has no jurisdiction over any degrees obtained by the student who goes outside of India and then returns back and practices medicine in India. MCI or MMC cannot do anything to the Indian hospitals that are affiliated with foreign universities because they are just renting their premises and have nothing to do with the program.

 

USAIM UG students passed the MCI screening test in the first try. The practice of the doctors graduating from Indian medical colleges was being affected by USAIM graduates. Indian medical colleges were not happy who work on extremely high donation system because they were losing business to medical schools such as USAIM for its low tuition and quality education. The complaints were taken to Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). MMC resorted to harassing the doctors associated with USAIM degree by sending them letters to attend the MMC office in Mumbai. They would ask them to sign an apology letter and to not display their USAIM MD degree. If the doctors attending the MMC office in Mumbai obliged then they would stop harassing them. If not then their medical license would be suspended.

 

This was told verbally by MMC to the doctors. MMC must communicate in writing which they do not do because they know they have no power over such cases.  When contacted MMC, they neither acknowledged the correspondence from USAIM nor replied to them. USAIM has also contacted MCI to set up a screening test for PG students similar to the screening test for the UG students but MCI has not shown any interest.

 

MMC cannot bar any doctors from displaying any qualifications. Doctors are allowed to display such certificates/diplomas and memberships/honors which confer professional knowledge or recognizes any exemplary qualifications/achievements.

My intention is to stop organizations such as MMC  who have ulterior motives to harass the doctors. The doctors have not broken any laws and have the right to practice medicine in India with their USAIM UG and PG degrees.
